AMP (Alternative Maritime Power), also known as Cold Ironing, is a system that allows a vessel to shut down its auxiliary engines while alongside and receive electrical power directly from the shore-side grid.

Key Reasons Ships Should Install AMP

  • Ports and governments are increasingly restricting emissions at berth
  • AMP directly eliminates NOx, SOx, PM, and CO₂ emissions while in port
  • Helps vessels comply with EU, US, and Asian port regulations

Significant CO₂ and Fuel Savings

  • Auxiliary engines typically consume 2–6 tons of fuel per day at berth
  • AMP eliminates this consumption completely
  • Results in:
    • 100% fuel saving at berth
    • 100% CO₂ reduction during hoteling
    • Lower EU ETS exposure for port stays
  • From 2030, passenger and container ships will be mandatory users of shore power in major EU ports
